Where to get health advice on bank holiday weekends

With two bank holiday weekends coming up in May, it’s important to know where to go if you or someone else becomes unwell.

The council's website has this useful guide to bank holiday weekend health advice.

Feeling unwell

When to see your GP

You should make an appointment with your GP to:

  • get help with a condition that is not getting better after treating it yourself or with help from your pharmacy
  • report urgent conditions that are not life threatening
  • report a deteriorating chronic condition

If you call outside normal surgery hours, you’ll be transferred to the GP out of hours service.

GPs usually work with a team including nurses, health visitors, midwives, and a range of other health professionals such as physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

Find your nearest GP in Stockport and the services they offer. By visiting the GP surgery’s website, you will also be able to find out how to use their online services which can save you time.

What to ask your doctor

Preparing in advance for your appointment can help you get the most out of the time you have with your doctor or other health professional. You may find it useful to read the NHS checklist of questions to ask at your appointment.
